Turkcell’s new facility triples company’s total operations space

APACDatacenter Dynamics — The largest data center in Turkey has been opened by Turkcell, with the telecoms company also announcing further plans to open two more facilities in the country. The site near Istanbul, in Gebze, will turn the capital city into a regional hub of data as well as act as a node for international data traffic, delivering cloud services to global IT businesses in addition to Turkish public and private sectors.

Nokia, Turk Telekom to develop 5G, IoT technologies

APACRCR Wireless — Finnish vendor Nokia and Turkish mobile telephony operator Türk Telekom have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate the development of 5G radio access network technology. Under the terms of the MoU, both firms will work together on testing 5G and Internet of Things technologies for tracking, metering, smart cities, smart home and latency-sensitive applications.

Turkey to probe massive ‘personal data leak’

APACChannel News Asia — ISTANBUL: Turkey’s authorities launched a probe Wednesday into a leak of the personal data of some 50 million Turkish citizens, the latest breach to expose weaknesses in the country’s information security. The massive database – containing Turks’ names, identity numbers and addresses – was posted online by hackers earlier this week along with sharp jabs at the country’s leadership.
