Lenovo to take on Asustek, Acer in Taiwan’s PC market

TaiwanLenovo Group, the world’s biggest PC maker by sales, said on Thursday that it aims to grab a “double-digit” share in Taiwan’s consumer PC market that is currently dominated by the local brands Asustek Computer and Acer. Lenovo currently accounts for 6%-7% of the Taiwan consumer PC market by unit sales, which the Chinese giant expects will reach 10% by the end of current fiscal year that will conclude in March 2016, said Lenovo Taiwan general manager Paul Tseng, who took office on April 1 this year.


Computex: Asustek ZenFone Selfie goes on display

TaiwanTaiwan’s Asustek Computer unveiled its long-rumored smartphone that is focused on taking self-portraits, or “selfies,” and also displayed its new tablets and all-in-one computers, at Computex Taipei on Monday. The ZenFone Selfie sports a 5.5-inch full-HD 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core 64-bit processor and 13-megapixel rear and front-facing cameras with a dual-color LED flash, allowing users to capture “natural-looking selfies” in high resolution, according to Asustek.


Asus Malaysia rolls out ZenFone 2, world’s first 4GB RAM smartphone

MalaysiaASUS Malaysia has announced the availability of the ZenFone 2 series at its recent ‘Incredible Zen Day’ consumer event in Kuala Lumpur. ZenFone 2 has a luxurious metallic hairline finish and is 3.9mm at its thinnest edges, and with a 72% screen-to-body ratio, it packs a 5.5-inch screen into a compact body similar in size to most 5-inch smartphones, Asus Malaysia said in a statement. “Our aim in 2015 is to become the No 2 smartphone brand in Malaysia, as we were No 3 last year,” said Asus Malaysia country manager Jimmy Lin, without citing his source.


Asus may set up production unit in India

IndiaNEW DELHI: Asustek Computer, the Taiwanese company that sells handsets under Asus brand, is actively considering scope for manufacturing in India, as it seeks to tap more of the country’s fast growing smartphone market by leveraging the government’s Make in India initiative.  “With the new government policies, we do see some benefits of manufacturing devices in India,” Peter Chang, country manager at Asus India, told ET. “We are in the process of hiring a consultancy firm to evaluate the prospects of manufacturing in India.”


Asus Zenfone 2 to make India debut in April

IndiaNEW DELHI: Asus has announced that it is going to launch its new flagship phone, Zenfone 2, by last week of April 2015. Earlier, the company had said that the phone will be sold without flash sales or invitations, taking a dig at companies like Xiaomi, OnePlus and YU which sell their phones via special sales. Asus had launched the second iteration of its ZenFone series, ZenFone 2 (ZE551ML), at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.

Asustek tops gov’t list of local brands gone global

TAIPEI–Asustek Computer Inc. (華碩) was once again named the top Taiwanese global brand for the year on an annual list released Wednesday by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The ministry’s Industrial Development Bureau praised the computer maker, which was also the top brand on the 20-company list last year, for outstanding innovation and nimble adaptation to market needs, which helped it earn a brand value of US$1.723 billion in 2013.

ASUS Teaser Indicates New ZenWatch and Zenfone Arrival on Oct. 28

The Asus Zenwatch features a 1.63-inch Amoled display with 320 x 320 pixels screen resolution and 278 ppi pixel density. It comes with a Snapdragon 400 SoC clocked at 1.2 GHz and 512 MB of RAM. The Zenwatch has 4 GB of internal storage. According to reports, Asus will hold a local event that already has a countdown timer and two teaser photos. The first photo shows the lower part of a smartphone with a metallic finish and a red band.


Toshiba’s PC restructuring to favor Asustek

TAIPEI–A recent decision by Japan’s Toshiba Corp. to exit certain consumer laptop markets is likely to benefit Taiwan’s Asustek Computer Inc. (華碩) because of their similar product positions, according to brokerage Morgan Stanley. Following Sony’s disposal of its Viao PC business and Samsung’s scaling down of its notebook business, Toshiba announced on Sept. 18 that it would accelerate its PC business restructuring and withdraw from certain consumer markets.


Asus aims to be among top 5 smartphone players next year

NEW DELHI: Betting on the success of its Zenfone series of smartphones, Taiwanese tech major Asus is targeting to be among the top five players in the smartphone space in India by the end of 2015.  “By the end of next year, our target is to be among the top 5. The response for the Zenfone series have been very good. We have sold over 1 lakh units so far,” Asus India Regional Head (South Asia and Country Manager) Peter Chang told PTI.


Asus Unveils the Premium-Styled ZenWatch

After releasing a teaser earlier in August, electronics manufacturer Asus officially revealed the ZenWatch, its first device in the category of wrist wearables. Asus, which is based in Taiwan, made the reveal on Tuesday at the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin electronics show in Germany. The smartwatch runs Android Wear, Google’s Android operating system designed for smart watches and other wearables. ZenWatch is similar to other devices and sports a simple rectangular watch face.
