Agartala to become India’s third internet gateway

IndiaGulf News — Kolkata: Agartala, the capital of the northeastern state of Tripura, is to become India’s third internet gateway, after Mumbai and Chennai. The announcement comes as Bangladesh’s submarine cable operator, Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL), has already connected 10GBPS bandwidth with BSNL cable at the Akhaura integrated check post at the Indo-Bangladesh international border.

Broadband policy should prioritise national needs

BangladeshThe government needs to answer questions about why the state-owned Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) is selling 57Gbps of bandwidth to an Italian company at a knock-down price far below the prevailing price in Bangladesh’s market. With broadband uptake in Bangladesh sorely lagging behind other countries, it makes no sense to export bandwidth at such low prices, when in other deals with India, BSCCl has achieved higher rates.

End users of internet will not gain from bandwidth price cut, say operators, from Bangladesh

BangladeshBD News 24 — Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) announced the price cut on Monday, saying the internet gateways will get 1MBPS bandwidth at Tk 625 from Tuesday, down from Tk 1,068. The 41 percent reduced price is applicable for 10GBPS (gigabyte per second) slab in Dhaka, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar initially. The IIG operators say only one or two among the 37 of them buy from the 10GBPS slab from the BSCCL.

Dhaka, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar will initially enjoy the privilege.

Bangladesh takes Tk 6.6 billion project to hook up to the second submarine cable

BangladeshThe Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the Regional Submarine Telecommunication Project for connection to the South East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe-5 (SEA-ME-WE-5) submarine cable. According to the project paper, the 25,000-kilometre cables would be installed under sea from Singapore to Bangladesh through Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Myanmar under the Tk 6.6 billion project. The submarine cable system is operated by an international consortium of 16 companies from 14 countries.
