China white-box players leaving tablet market and pushing into new applications

TSMC secures A10 chip orders from Apple, says report

TaiwanTaiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will be the exclusive supplier of Apple’s next-generation A10 processors with volume production to kick off starting March 2016, according to a recent Chinese-language Commercial Times report. TSMC will offer its in-house developed backend integrated fan-out (InFO) wafer-level packaging for the production of the A10 chips, which will be built using the foundry’s 16nm FinFET process technology, said the report, which cited unspecified Apple suppliers as its source.

Apple 12.9-inch iPad to use displays from Sharp

Xiaomi MiPad and budget Redmi 2 set to launch in India on March 24

IndiaAt an event this morning in Delhi, Chinese gadget maker Xiaomi revealed that its tablet, the MiPad, and the updated version of its cheapest phone, the Redmi 2, are set to launch in India on March 24. The budget-oriented Redmi 2 first launched in China in January, while the MiPad dates back to May 2014. Xiaomi’s MiPad, which comes with a 7.9-inch 1080p HD screen, will cost INR 12,999 (US$207), while the Redmi 2 (with a 4.7-inch 720p HD screen) is pegged at INR 6,999 (US$112).

Samsung loses leadership position to iBall in Indian tablet market

Local tablet vendors are posing stiff competition to Samsung at retail counters, IDC said, add8ng that iBall has more than tripled its share in the fourth quarter of 2014 to 15.6%, up from a 4.5% share in the same quarter last year.
