Want China Times — Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei was on Monday announced as the winner of the prize for the European Consumer Smartphone 2015/2016 in recognition of its Huawei P8 smartphone. Huawei has now won the award, handed out by the European Image and Sound Association (EISA), for three consecutive years — it won the 2014/2015 award for the Huawei Ascend P7, while the Ascend P6 won the previous year’s prize.

A student team from Indonesia is working on an app that aims to reduce the number of traffic accidents worldwide. TAIPEI–The HTC One M8 has been named the smartphone of 2014 by ePrice after almost 80,000 consumers in Taiwan cast their ballots electronically, the high-tech website said Saturday. The website said the HTC One M8, the flagship model of Taiwan-based smartphone vendor HTC Corp., garnered 17.7 percent of the votes cast in the online poll between Dec. 29, 2014 and Jan. 11, 2015, beating the Sony Xperia Z3, the flagship model of Japan’s Sony Corp., by 3.2 percentage points.
