TAIPEI, Taiwan — The non-profit Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) was presented with the Top 100 Global Innovators Award by Thomson Reuters yesterday. Tony Kinnear, managing director of ASEAN and North Asia Thomson Reuters, was in Taiwan to present the honor. ”Since 1973, ITRI has been investing in applied research, software and services to help industries innovate and stay competitive, transforming Taiwan from a labor-intensive industry into a value-added, technology-driven economy,” said Kinnear. “This global award is a recognition of the ITRI organization’s drive for excellence in innovation.”

TAIPEI–U.S.-based Intel Corp.’s research arm announced that it has created a new low-energy prototype memory array alongside Taiwan’s state-funded Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) that could boost device battery life. The prototype dynamic random access memory (DRAM) array can achieve four times lower latency at 25 times less energy than the standard double data rate synchronous (DDR) DRAM devices that are generally used in computers, according to Intel Labs.

TAIPEI — The output of Taiwan’s laser industry will grow rapidly over the next few years as the government is promoting the sector, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) said Monday. Aiming to make the government’s “Laser Valley” project in southern Taiwan a key player in the global market, Taiwan plans to set up 10 industrial clusters, with total production value reaching NT$20 billion (US$663.78 million) by 2016, the ITRI said in a research note.
