He said this was welcome news for the Vietnamese public who have heard recent reports that China is building a fake island on the Gac Ma Reef in the Vietnamese Hoang Sa Archipelago.

More chipset suppliers to tie up with Taiwan-based IC design houses

More chipset suppliers are likely to tie up with Taiwan-based IC design houses in order to tap retail channels as well as to expand their ecosystem in China, according to industry sources. Microchip Technology announced a deal in late May to acquire all of outstanding shares of Taiwan-based ISSC Technologies, a provider of low power Bluetooth and advanced wireless solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT) market, at NT$143 per share (approximately US$4.74) through a tender offer.

Google considering investment in new subsea cable – WSJ

Google Inc. is weighing an investment in a new cable across the Pacific Ocean, the Wall Street Journal reported citing people familiar with the matter. The move comes as technology companies send an increasing amount of traffic across private networks, the report said. (on.wsj.com/1isOMAv) Google took a stake in a similar $300 million cable in 2010, according to the report. The Internet search company would use the new subsea cable to connect data centers in Oregon and Japan, the report said.
